Hi Guys!
Trying to figure out what photo is best to use as your main Photo Mosaic photo?
There are a few things that you need to consider:
Make sure your Photo is clear, has good contrast in colors and does not have too many small details. Here is a good example:
And a bad one:
2. Make sure that it's the right ratio. If your Mosaic board is designed for 25X25 tiles, make sure your photo has the same ratio. example: 1,500X1,500.
3. Make sure the photo is of a high enough quality. If your photo Quality is low, or its resolution (in pixels) is too small, the outcome will be affected. A good thumb rule is to multiply your cells rows and columns by 600 (300dpi times 2 inches per cell) and divide by 5. example: If my rowsXcolumns count is 25X25, the calculation will be 25*600/5=3,000, and the resolution (in pixels) that I will use for this Board will be approximately 3,00X3,000, 300dpi.
4. Choose the right image format. Make sure to use a .JPG file format. Using a .PNG file is not supported by the software. If you have a .PNG file that you want to use, make sure you convert it to .JPG properly (simply changing its extension will not work). Please see this video for a simple solution:
5. Make sure that your photo is saved with sRGB Color representation. You can simply right-click the image, select the details tab and scroll down to the "Image" section-> Color representation to check whether your image is saved correctly.
If it's not sRGB, you can fix it by opening the image with Photoshop, and export it with the correct file settings by following these few simple steps:
a. Open the image using Photoshop.
b. Click "File"->Export->Export As.
c. A settings window will open. Make sure that the format is set to "JPG" and under "Color Space", Select the "Convert to sRGB" option (marked in yellow in the image below).
d. Click on the "Export All..." button.

Great help for selecting and using the right kind of image for a photo mosaic. I think you should also create an article on choosing the correct settings for Photo Mosaic.
